Eddie Howe has hit back at Paul Mitchell’s claims that Newcastle’s transfer strategy is not working to their targets, with the Magpies boss declaring it gives the club huge pride in what they have done.
In his first press conference since Mitchell’s controversial interview last week, Howe revealed they had not spoken in nine days and had not discussed any discussions ahead of the January transfer window. He also said it would not help the current situation if he commented on other points in Mitchell’s interview.
But Howe is ready to hit back at the new sporting director’s claims about the club overpaying for players and suggesting their approach is not working to their goals, a claim he has strongly defended.
“I’ve thought about a couple of things about that,” Howe began.
“I’m very proud of all the players we’ve signed in that time. It’s easy to look back at the transfer market and judge the players you’ve signed in the last three years.”
“But you have to go back to the situation we were in at the time, being in the relegation zone and trying to find new players. That’s not an easy thing to do.”
“You still have to find people who are not just short-term, but long-term. When you look back, the job was good. Our goal is to stay in the league.”
“I’m very proud of the work we’ve done and the players we have now from the legacy of those transfer windows,”
“We love them so much, so I think it’s all about สมัคร ufabet where you are in the moment and the decisions you make. I think everyone can be very proud of what they’ve done.”
“Those signings, I was very important and I own all the signings. I would say that whether it’s good or bad, I’m in charge of it because at the end of the day, I have the final say on those signings and I’m very proud to have signed those players.”
“I think they are excellent signings for the position we are in and the long-term future of the club and I have a lot of faith in them and I still do. You ask me questions and I always try to answer them if I can. I would even like to find more people like them if I can.”
